Anomalous Flexor Digitorum Superficialis Muscle Belly Associated with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

چکیده
Anomalous muscle bellies in the forearm generally are asymptomatic and appreciated an academic sense during cadaveric dissections. Few prior anatomic variations have been described with symptoms, associated even more rarely carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). We discuss evaluation management of a case CTS belly flexor digitorum superficialis to index within tunnel. Carpal (CTS) is most frequent compressive estimated prevalence 4% 5%.1Chammas M. Boretto J. Anomalous flexor digitorum superficialis muscle belly presenting as a mass within the palm.
Anomalies of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle are extremely uncommon and usually present as a painful mass or pseudotumour within the palm. Diagnosis may be difficult because many other soft tissue tumours (lipomas, ganglions, giant cell tumours and hamartomas) may present similarly. Magnetic resonance imaging helps to define the extent and characteristics of this anomalous muscle bell...

CASE DESCRIPTION A 25 years old man presented with a laceration on radial side of proximal phalanx of 4(th) finger (zone II flexor) which was due to cut with glass. CLINICAL FINDINGS The sheaths of Tendons of flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus were not the same and each tendon had a separate sheath. TREATMENT AND OUTCOME The tendons were reconstructed by modified Kessler sutures, ...
متن کاملCarpal Tunnel Syndrome Caused by Bifid Median Nerve in Association with Anomalous Course of the Flexor Digitorum Superficialis Muscle at the Wrist
Secondary carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) can be caused by vascular anomalies usually involving persistent median artery, variations of the median nerve, and space-occupying lesions in the wrist and palm. High division of the median nerve proximal to the carpal tunnel (known as a bifid median nerve) is a median nerve anomaly with a reported incidence of 2.8% per wrist. The bifid median nerve is of...
متن کاملRupture of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle belly during isometric weight training.
Isometric weight training is a well-recognised technique used by fitness trainers to increase muscle strength. We report a case of a flexor digitorum superficialis muscle belly rupture that occurred during this form of muscle training. Rupture of the belly of the forearm flexor muscles is rare. When the muscle undergoes tractional force in isometric weight training, there is a potential for it ...
متن کاملSeparate Belly and Tendon of Flexor Digitorum Superficialis to the Fifth Digit.
Variation in the origin of long flexor tendons in the anterior compartment of forearm is common. During routine cadaveric dissection at Melaka Manipal Medical College (Manipal Campus), we observed a separate muscle belly and tendon of flexor digitorum superficialis (FDS) to the fifth digit in the right upper limb of a 60 year-old male cadaver. The anomalous muscle belly originated from the comm...
